Thrasher
Thrasher is an iconic skateboarding magazine that was started in 1981 by Kevin Thatcher, Eric Swenson, and Fausto Vitello. These were some of the guys who started Independent Trucks. Since day one it has been produced in San Francisco, California by High Speed Productions and holds the same exact script style logo.
Through editor Jake Phelps, Thrasher Magazine has maintained a single voice that screams skateboarding and all that it entails. Over the many years and issues, this voice has become its brand and Thrasher's originality has become its biggest strength. It has consistently covered the best skateboarding by the worlds best skateboarders. More recently they have made a successful transition to online and transferred many of the print properties they invented such as, Skate Rock, Firing Line, Hall of Meat, Skateline (hosted by Gary Rogers) and Burnout, which is the domain of senior photographer, Michael Burnett.
Long-running events such as the Thrasher King of the Road, which is a US tour with a huge array of challenges that participating skateboarders must undertake, is now hosted on Vice TV Channel. Also, the Thrasher Skater of the Year has always carried serious weight with past winners including Tony Hawk, Danny Way, John Cardiel, Mike Carroll, Eric Koston, Bob Burnquist, Andrew Reynolds, Geoff Rowley, Daewon Song, Marc Johnson, Chris Cole, Grant Taylor and Ishod Wair.
